Back to my roots, coat hanger

Description

I won't bore you with the petty details, but I grabbed a few roots from a smallish white oak downed tree on our property over this past summer that was an unfortunate fatality of an 80yo white oak that came down after being struck by lightning. The trees have been lying on the ground for about 3 years, aging. The roots however were sticking out of the ground. They are VERY light and are kind of hard. I don't think I've worked with roots before, but they have great character and potential for working. I let them dry out on my porch, then took them inside to fully dry out about a month ago. Today I looked around at my misc. unfinished projects and figured today was the day to "get back to my roots."

All I did was hand rub the root to shake loose any bark from them this past summer, sponge washed it when I first took it inside a month ago, stood it up in a corner to finish drying, and then drilled and hung it today. No sanding, or finish. Just perfect as is in their natural state.

:bulletgreen:About a week ago I stopped on the side of the road and grabbed a branch off of a much larger mature branch that came down, from a Tulip popular tree. It's heavy and just... beautiful. It's bark is white! It's on the porch drying out of the weather. I have NO idea what I want to do with it! It's a little over 5' long, and about 3" in diameter. And reasonably straight. I'm thinking of grabbing my hand saw and getting more!
